Custom Jewelry FAQ
Thank you for your interest in a custom piece of jewelry! Here is an outline of the process - if you have questions after reading through this, please email me at hello@mountaingoatgeo.com.
How do I commission a custom?
I will intermittently release custom slots as listings on my website under the "Customs" collection. Each listing will have a stone available for a custom design. You can commission a custom by purchasing the deposit in the listing.
What if I want a custom without a stone?
I am not officially offering customs for stone-free designs, but you can email me at hello@mountaingoatgeo.com with any inquiries. I do offer some designs as made-to-order pieces, check those out here.
What if I purchased a stone from your cab sale and want it made into jewelry?
You can commission a custom with a stone from one of my sales by emailing me at hello@mountaingoatgeo.com or messaging me via Shopify Inbox or Instagram. I will collect a deposit from you, and the custom process will be the same as website-listed custom slots - outlined here!
What materials do you use?
.925 and .999 silver, stones, sometimes other metals for accents.
How much does a custom piece cost?
In short, $200 - $400+ depending on design complexity + materials, plus $100 deposit that counts toward final price.

How will we communicate throughout the process?
All correspondences will take place via the email you provide, so PLEASE check your email often. You can expect some questions, progress photos, troubleshooting, and excitement.
When do I pay the outstanding balance?
The final price will be agreed upon after concept is finalized, and outstanding balance will be due within 1 week of finishing the piece. Please note that unpaid pieces will not ship and will eventually be forfeited so they can find a home with someone else!
Can I return it/get a refund?
There are no returns or refunds for custom jewelry. I take the time and care to communicate with you through every step of the process and trust that you'll LOVE your piece, so if you have any hesitations through the process please let me know. This should be a fun process, and I am not a mind reader! For workmanship defects, please refer to my store policy here.
What if I cancel before you finish my piece?
Life happens, I get it. For cancellations in the planning stage I will issue a refund contingent on my time spent up to that point, up to $80. The full deposit will be forfeited for cancellations made during the fabrication stage.
What if you cancel my custom request?
Depending on your vision for your piece, I may ultimately say no to a project. Nothing personal! If I do so before significant back-and-forth and/or before sending mock-ups, you will be refunded for the full deposit amount. If I do so after significant back-and-forth, refund amount will be contingent on my time spent up to that point. Please note that I have the right to refuse custom work at any point in the process, and your deposit may be forfeited in full given exceptional circumstance including poor conduct and disrespect.
How do I come up with a design?
Please look at my current offerings and past work for inspiration for your piece! You may send inspiration photos from other artists or the internet, but please note that I will not replicate other metalsmith's work. Please contact them if you like a design of theirs!
